nyck (pronounced n.y.c.k), a music project by Nick Acquroff and Dom Garrard, strips away all of the noise and clutter and focuses on the fundamentals. A project that is honest and raw in its portrayal of the monotonous and the every day. A resident of St.Kilda in Melbourne, Acquroff tells stories that bring the sweetness and sadness and loneliness of suburban Melbourne to life.
Their debut single, Decision, was the #1 ranked song on Triple J Unearthed for three weeks in July, and is still one of the top 10 songs played on Unearthed in 2016. On the back of the song’s success, nyck became the Unearthed Feature Artists in October, with regular plays and interviews on Triple J Radio.
To cap off a busy year, Nick & Dom went on tour throughout the spring, supporting Emma Louise at The Corner Hotel in Melbourne, playing Valley Fiesta in Brisbane, their own sold out debut Melbourne show at Wesley Anne, and a run of shows up the East Coast of Australia. In December, the band will support Dope Lemon at Melbourne festival, Royal Croquet Club.
Nick was also invited to Song Hubs, an initiative by APRA that pairs Australian musicians together for exclusive writing sessions. At the sessions, he worked with some of Australia’s most revered musicians and producers, including Sarah Blasko, Mallrat, Woodes, John Castle, and Wayne Connolly.
Currently recording in the studio, nyck’s debute EP, Ten Years and 12 Weeks, will be released in the Autumn of 2017.
